IN DEFENSE OF A HAIRDO

In Defense of a Hairdo monumentalizes the elegance and importance of hairstyling as a unique art form. The central image is an enormous six foot wig styled in an oversized pompadour displayed on a huge six foot wig head. This  twelve foot sculpture is surrounded by a chain link fence topped with a razor ribbon roll as protection for this totemic icon. A pink brigade of artist/hairstylists wearing individually sculpted wigs stand guard around the fence to defend “haute coiffure” against the enemies of culture and sensitivity.  Magenta states that standing in front of the mirror, creating one’s own hairdo of the day is an aesthetic act.
